Senior Pastor (Full Time)

Position Summary

The Senior Pastor provides visionary leadership and spiritual oversight to the members and Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church through the faithful exposition of God's Word.


Position Description

 

The Senior Pastor's primary task is the effective communication of the Bible so as to equip the church for ministry and sustain sound doctrine.  Through his preaching the Senior Pastor will challenge us to grow in an intimate relationship with God, and thereby carry out the vision, purpose and ministry goals of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.


 

The Senior Pastor will set the long-term ministry vision and goals for the church. He is to champion various projects or mission in order to further the kingdom of God and to serve the surrounding community. Through the faithful witness of his life, the Senior Pastor will be a spiritual shepherd to the congregation of Sweet Home. As a shepherd appointed by God, he will be knowledgeable of Scripture and strive to protect the Church from error by exercising spiritual oversight and ensuring the continued discipleship of the Body of Christ.


Qualifications:

 

The Senior Pastor must possess the following:

Personal:

  • A clear testimony of saving faith in Jesus Christ

  • A belief in the inspired, inerrant, infallible and sufficient Word of God, and a passion to live by it

  • A character that exhibits the qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; 1 Peter 5:2-4

  • A lifestyle demonstrating consistent spiritual and moral characteristics which are in harmony with the

covenant adopted by Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church

  • A heart for the lost and dedication to proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

  • An ability to relate to individuals with compassion, sensitivity, honesty, candor, and confidence

  • A pattern of commitment to regular personal accountability with the Church leadership

  • A recognition for the need to maintain personal free time for himself and his family

Professional:

  • An evident gift for preaching and teaching the Word of God powerfully

  • An aptitude for effectively communicating the deep truths of the Scriptures to people of diverse

demographics (e.g. education, culture, age, spiritual maturity etc.)

  • The wisdom to accurately interpret the Bible and discover its meaning

  • The gift to discern God's will, and lead a congregation to that goal

Church leadership

  • Enthusiasm for creating a long-term vision and being an active champion for it in collaboration with

the Church leadership

  • The capability to work effectively in a cooperative leadership environment and able to lead and direct

the team

  • Proven ability to multi-task in challenging situations

  • Experience in full-time pastoral ministry and/or leadership of a major ministry (non-administrative)

  • And is an ordained minister who is cooperative with and supportive of the National Baptist

Association Convention, USA

Academic:

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, though a master of divinity or

similar degree is preferred.

  • And has demonstrated continued growth through professional development and education


Responsibilities:


The role of the Senior Pastor has teh following responsibilities:

  • Preach the Word of God regularly

  • Administer the ordinances of the Church

  • Initiate the planning process for vision and long-term ministry goals

  • Demonstrate maturity in discerning teh will of God in setting the direction for the church

  • Provide spiritual oversight to the Church by ensuring that all affairs and activities are consistent with

Bible and Sweet Home's vision, purpose, and ministry goals

  • Inspire people into deeper and closer relationship with Christ through his preaching and teaching

  • Lead the equipping and training initiatives to develop lay leadership within Sweet Home

  • Safeguard the Church from theological and doctrinal error

  • Conduct pastoral care, visitation and crisis counseling in cooperation with the deacons and other

pastoral staff

  • Officiate at weddings, funerals, baptisms and baby dedications in partnership with other pastoral staff

  • Provide oversight and direction to pastoral and support staff (including performance evaluaions and

development plans)

  • Participate at Association, State and Convention levels

  • Ex-officio member of all Church boards and committees, as required
